DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR MEDICAL OFFICES

Design Considerations For Medical Offices

In looking at the design considerations for medical offices, we see that both ambience and functionality play a vital role in enhancing the visibility and maximising the efficiency of the space. Today we delve into the various components that make up a doctor’s office, so as to guide you as you fit-out your next healthcare project.

#1 Hospital Bed

It goes without saying that the Hospital Bed is the most important piece that needs to be considered when setting up a medical consultancy office. It allows for easy access of the patient, plus provides a comfortable position for examination for both parties. However, depending on the practice, the hospital bed may be replaced with a chair, something you will often see when you visit a dentistry.

#2 Hospital Curtain

The next piece of equal importance is the Hospital Curtain. This can either be permanently fitted, that is, ceiling mounted, or a portable / foldable screen that allows for sufficient privacy. In addition to privacy, hospital curtains prevent the spread of germs, should be easy to clean and, in some cases, come complete with antibacterial properties. As they are not limited in colour and design options, hospital curtains can be used to add just the right amount of character to the medical office, and, by extension, enhance the ambience of the space.

#3 Lighting

When it comes to Lighting, both natural and artificial light sources are used within a medical office so as to increase visibility. Natural lighting, as the name suggests, is lighting gotten from nature or day-time lighting. Artificial lighting on the other hand, is complementary lighting like overhead ceiling mounted light fixtures or portable medical lamps, that can function throughout the day and night.

#4 Plumbing

As for Plumbing, a medical wash basin (clinical sink) within the doctor’s office is also of great importance. It allows for easy cleaning of hands and equipment plus instruments before any procedure can be carried out. This then prevents any contamination from taking place.

#5 Equipment

When it comes to Equipment, a medical office would be incomplete without these two pieces. A medical or physician’s scale that is used to monitor and track the health progress of the patient. And, a readily accessible medical cart or trolley to store, transport and dispose medicine as well as medical instruments.

#6 Furniture

As for Furniture needed in a medical office, in addition to the doctor’s desk and chair, you will need a chair for the patient, chairs for the visitors accompanying the patient, a medical stool for the doctor that will be used while examining the patient, storage units for medicine and files, and a display unit for pertinent information like publications.

When all these components are put together and complemented with the right ambience, patients visiting the medical clinic will be less apprehensive or anxious, as the relaxing aura will permeate the space. That said, I hope this information will be of great help when fitting out or setting up a medical office; should you however need some clarification, feel free to reach out and we will gladly be of assistance.
